Internet Plan for HTC Trophy for Verizon?

Okey doke, I'm up for a new phone in about a month now. I'm looking into getting a smart phone, and since I'm already a zune pass subscriber and xbox live member, I thought a windows phone is perfect. However, I'd like to keep my plan the way it is, because its a family plan in which no other members of my family have high-tech smartphones. So I was wondering can these phones connect to the internet simply where there is internet, such as my house or starbucks? Or do I have to pay extra for the plan for it to be able to connect? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
